Hi again,
Got a couple more gigs to add to the gig guide, and put a couple of pictures of the "Boy Wonder" Brandon on the site in the usual places.

Hello everybody,
Sorry for the very long delay in updating the website but there's been bits and bobs going on and I've just not got round to updating this site!
The big news is that we now have a permanent bass player!
Brandon Hoadley! Brandon has been with us on and off for about 4 months now, and came aboard full time about 5 weeks ago. I will be posting his biog soon on the site. We'd like to welcome him to the band and pray that he stays longer than just about everybody else!
Other news is that the myspace account is at last up and running. There are some tracks to listen to on there and I will be posting 2 new songs on there in the next couple of weeks.
The address for this wonderful site is.
All the credit for getting this up and running goes to the new kid "Brandon". Well done mate!
The latest album has now been remixed and Darrel has finished all the bass work, this is going to be out soon.
We have started work on a new album and 4 tracks are now recorded with the rest due very soon. This will be coming out on my own label "EdSonJo Records"
and will only be available at gigs.
All these releases are for gig sale only! (If I can get it together I may sell them from the website as well but let's wait and see).
They will be in a very limited supply, so if you see one at a gig that you like the look of buy it there and then as it may not be available next time.
It also looks like we will be doing some work in Europe this winter, details are very sketchy at the moment, but I will keep you informed here. The plan is to record all the shows for a live "in Europe CD" to be released early 2008.
There's gonna be a lot of new material on these cd's that will start surfacing at our live shows. The set will start to reflect this as we are moving more into performing our own material. We will of course still be playing a good mixture of material that we are always asked for but I'd like to start doing more of our own stuff.
I will be putting a new song on the myspace account over the next couple of days. "Long Black Vail"
The track was originaly recorded by Lefty Frizell and is an all time favourite. I've wanted to record this for a longtime and now that the studio is truly up and running it gives me the time and space to work on material. It always amazes me that there are so many great albums out there by bands on our scene and most are recorded in 2 or 3 days. Sounds like a longtime to some people but consider that chart bands can spend a month only recording drums! It does show you how good a lot of the musicians are and where on our scene.
Anyway take a listen its free!
See ya round the corner!

Well its been a while, what can say, there's not really been much to report. Should be finishing the album this weekend. Darrel has finished the bass, and there's just some overdubs to do.
Got 2 more albums to do later this year. One solo and another with the band. Looks like we'll be going over to Europe and possibly USA later this year as well. I'll update asap.
Will be doing an article for Mad Rat MAg on the sad passing of Colin Winski late last month. Saw him perform 3 times in this country over the last 20 odd years and if there's one thing that I'll remember him for it's showmanship. What a performer. Anyway get a copy of next months Mad Rat mag.
Will be updating the gig guide this week, about another 10 gigs to go on. Can't keep up with it.
For all you local's we are playing the Hersham club this Saturday, and "The old house at home" pub in Dorking next
Sunday 20th May.
Been really having fun checking out bands on you tube. If you've not given it a go go for it. For somebody that dose'nt get to see to many bands its great.
Favourites at the moment are
John Lindberg Rockabilly trio - great original sound and a couple of really well worked out cover versions.
Deke Dickerson - Some great stuff from the Dekester look for the tracks recorded in Holland, really good sound.
Also a great guitarist/Singer from Canada called Paul Pigat, has a band called "Cousin Harley" great great player and singer, check them out!
And some great stuff from the Living End, and great band from down under. Won't be to everyone's taste but I love them.
Still waiting for a part for my tape machine, so no progress on any recording for the new record company that I've set up.
More on that at a later date. The part is coming from Japan and its taken 10 weeks so far. I could have gone over for a holiday with the family and spent some time with Rui's family and picked the bloody thing up myself!
Anyway enough for now, catch up soon.

Hi everybody
Just a quick one to let you know that we are playing The Cardinal Woolsey this Thursday 22nd, and the Prince of Wales Strood this Saturday 24th.
Both last minute gigs folks.
It's better than watching that dancing on ice thing on the box and Eastenders aint it?.................... well aint it????
Lots going on behind the scenes and I've not really been on top of the website just lately, sorry.
Will be doing a big update towards the end of this week early part of next.
Take it easy,
Lee

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Hi everybody, Sorry for the long lay off! Things have been far
from quiet.
We have been very busy with gigs over the month of December, and I'd like to take this oppurtunity to thank everybody that has booked us over the last 12 months and those that are kind enough to book us again this year.
Nick is still on bass playing duties for us at the moment although he was in Hollywood just before Christmas filming for a movie "beauty 24" with Arson Roulette. And if he thinks he's getting Hollywood wages now he's got another thing coming!
Check out the finished article at this link.

PLAYING THE WOODGRANGE SOUTHEND THIS SUNDAY 10TH DECEMBER. If you've never been and you fancy a night of rock n roll at a traditional rockin pub then come along. All are welcome and it's free to get in! What have you got to loose.
Just back from another sellout at the Wildest Cats weekender.
Thanks to Ritchie Gee, Andy Munday, Frank Knuckles, and all the gang for another brilliant weekender. Have booked to play next Summer so book early as this one was absolutely packed. The Summer should be even better.
Will be putting the 2007 dates on the gig guide this week.
See ya later,
Lee
21/11/06
JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW, WE ARE NOT PLAYING THE CLIFTON ARMS ON THE 23RD DECEMBER.
I'M AFRAID THIS IS AN ERROR ON THE PART OF THE PUB. BUT NEVER FEAR WE WILL BE BACK THERE IN THE NEW YEAR.

Lee

NEW TRACK FROM THE FORTHCOMING ALBUM ON THE DOWNLOADS PAGE.
A new track has been added to the downloads page, please take a look & listen.
This is the first available track from our new album titled
"Flyin High"
Album due out Winter 2007.
Also my good friend Jason Saxton (Little Jay) has sent this clip to me from youtube. Don't know what this boy does on his computer all night! I'd like to be a pixel on the screen though!
This was taken when we were at the Brighton Rumble a couple of months ago for our good friends Dave, Phil & Cherry. It was a great night and I hope you enjoy short clip. Track is "If your gonna say goodbye to me" off the first album "Outlaws Ride".
Take it easy,

Well what can I say, it's been ages.
Sorry for the long delay everybody.
I know that I've been promising everybody that I would post an update, but everything has been going on over the last few months and it's all taken me away from band bits.
Well the big news is that Paul has decided to hang up the towel with the band. This is a big blow for us as Paul is a top bloke and a great player and singer. I'd like to thank him for his time with the band, and also the best of luck for any future projects that he has in mind.
Some of you may have seen us at the Jack Baymore gig with Nick Hoadley from the super Cordwood Draggers.
Nick will be coving bass playing duties for us until we can find a permanent bass player.
If there is anybody out there that wants a job playing bass just drop me a line. details on the contact us page.
Everybody in the band has had this bloody cold or bug thing that is going round and that has also knocked us all for 6, thankfully this has had minimal disruption to the gigging schedule which as ever is frantic. The new album requires some changes that will be done over the next few weeks and the artwork and writeup are now finished. This means that the album should be available for those that want it at Pakefield.
On the subject of Pakefield, we are getting asked if we are playing and the answer is yes! We are the first band of the weekend on at 16:00 in the Princess bar. So this is the start of the party!!!!!
Some new gigs been added for the remainder of this year. The gigs for next year are coming in thick and fast and I'll start posting them about December time.
I have been asked also for a gig list. As a rule we did deceide not to do gig lists as we felt that pretty much everybody either had a computer or had access to a computer, but the demand is still there for the good old flyer. So with this in mind I will run a trial gig list for a couple of months and if they prove helpful and they all go then I'll keep it up. Please if you want one come and see us at the gig.
Got a gig in for Holtwhites sports and social club on 6th November. This is my old stomping ground so please come and support the club. It's been through a lot over the last few years with the demolition of the Townhouse etc. Looking forward to this gig.
In other news the studio is nearly up and running, so I will be recording very soon. This is a studio for band & solo bits and bobs only, I'll not be using this to record anybody else, least of all because of the way that I work in the studio I doubt if anybody else could work with me! And secondly because it's really just designed for me to release what I want.
I have over the years tried many different forms of rockin music and hope to be able to self release tracks as they come to me not wait until I have an whole album of a certain type of music to punt to a record company.
The next Sundowners album is all but written but this will be for mid 2007 earliest now. The next project is to record an album of tracks that I have written over the last 10 years! This is in a more country/roots feel, and to be honest I'm not sure if any of the rockin labels would take me up on it, so rather than try the usual slog I' ve decided to do it myself. The sound will still be very much in a rockabilly framework, but with a bit more of a country/roots feel.
I also have a yearning to release a 45, this has been on my mind for a long time, and I hope to realise this next year. I just have to find a pressing plant!!!!!!!
Well that's it for now, lots more to mention but got to get on with updating the site, I'll post again later this week with more info.
Take it easy,
Lee
23/08/06
It's been so long since the last update.
A lot has been happening and a lot gigs have been done
Dave is fitting in really well now and has become a permanent member of the band. His generous nature is blessing to behold. I don't know how I ever managed without his Polish Marlboro's on the road!
The new album is in the can, and will be mixed this week.
First impressions seem favourable and I think once its mixed it'll sound great. This album has nearly all original material on it with only 2 cover versions.
This is a conscious effort by me to try and move more into performing our own material along side cover songs, when we play live.
I'd like to say a big thankyou to Darrel and also Colin & Clive at Foottapping for making us feel so at ease and getting a great sound in there new fab studio.
I will be going back into the studio later this year to record some tracks for another Foottapping project, more news to follow on that. And also the long awaited "Country/Roots" album.
We will be supporting Jack Baymore at the Beauwaters club for Pete Bruce and Donna on Sunday 27th. My old mucker Nick Hoadley will be playing bass as Paul's gone to France for a well earned holiday. Looking forward to this as its the first time I will have seen JB!
In other news we are going to be playing the Pakefield weekender in December this year, (please check out the gig guide).
I'm really looking forward to this as it's a great weekend and we always have a great time with Ritchie Gee and the gang.
We have had some gigs confirmed for next year including the "Shake Rattle & Roll" weekender. I will post these later in the year as more come in.
Seeya later,
Lee
13/07/06
Well it's all change again here at Sundown towers.
We have been joined by mini Dave Prince on drums and vocals. Dave has been a mate for years and we first played together in the early "One Track Mind" line up. Since then Dave's played with a number of well known bands the last of them being "The Nightshakers" with Jose, and Spike. These guy's are off doing other things so it has worked out well.
We are hoping to have our first album out very soon. We have recorded some demos that sound great, but we need to fine tune these a bit before we release them. There are some new pics in the offing, but this is gonna take a little while, as time is always a problem. So please be patient and I will update as soon as possible.
There are a couple of new gigs on the listing so please take a look if we're in your area, and come down and see us.
There are a few other things on the boil at the moment, but more about those soon.
Cheers,
Lee

Hi everyone,
Been a lot going on in the last week. Been to a couple of great gigs which is rare for me as we always seem to be playing!
The first gig was at the Rosecroft in Orpington, this is one of my favourite venues. It's got a great feel to it and of course there's always great music to be had by the bands down there and Pete spinning the wax. The first band on were the "Cordwood Draggers" I've worked with all the members in the past except for Ed the guitarist, and I have to say that they are a great band. Doing a very varied set of original songs and some great well chosen covers. They are a must see. The next band Arson Roulette and the Drugstore Cowboys I'd heard a lot about and they didn't disappoint. Very good tight band with a hint of early Big Sandy about there sound but a bit harder. My old mucker Nick Hoadley was playing with his band the Cordwood's and with Arson, and doing the sound. Is there no end to this man's talents. The second gig was last Saturday at the Ace Cafe. We were due to play in Skegness but due to the Van blowing up on route thankfully about 2 miles from my house we couldn't get to the gig. Well pissed off I decided to go and see my old mate Darrel and the Enforcers. I have to say that I think it's the best show that I've ever seen Darrel do. He was outstanding if a little drunk! and Les and Alan were on equally brilliant form. The place was packed, bearing in mind that there was a lot on locally that night. I met up with a few old friends and all in all a great gig.
It looks like the recording of the next album will be in early August. We will be doing another album for Foot tapping records with Darrel in the producers chair. I'm have a rough idea of the songs for the album. We will be recording one or two cover songs that we've been asked by various people to release but there will be more original material on this album than the last. Watch this space for a progress report.
Please check the gig guide as more gigs are added.
It looks like we'll be going to Europe later in the year, more news when I get it.
Cheers for now.
Lee
21/06/06
Well its all happening at the moment.
Got the site up and running and with a few new changes, I hope things are easier to read for those that have moaned!
The big news is that after just over 2 years with the band Ritchie has decided to move on to other things. It will be a loss to us as he's a top bloke and we've had some good times but we wish him all the best, and on a personal note I'd like to thank him for all his hard work and dedication over the last couple of years.
You still may see him occasionaly if we need a drummer to stand in, so watch this space. The new man to fill the drumming stool is James (Jimbo) Somerville. At 18 years of age he's the youngest member by far, but lacks nothing in the drumming stakes. Catch us with him soon, and watch out for his biog entry later this week.
Cheers,
Lee

Well had a load of problems with the website! Couldn't update anything so its been a bit hit and miss over the last couple of months.
02/05/06
Hi,
Been a while since the last update,
Lots been going on gigs have all been great, I've done a couple with the Heartbreakers/Beyonders, had a great time on those, Paul even played bass on one, had a great laugh. Peter and Lance are great guys and deserve to be out gigging more, so if there's any promotors out there, get in touch with them at this website address.
There are some music downloads on here as well.
Also been out with the Phantoms for a gig, that's always a laugh. Try and catch us somewhere. Of course the very wonderful Jacko Buden is on vocals, sax and keyboards.
31/03/06
Well it's been almost a month since the last update!
This is just a quick info update.
I'm in the process of adding a lot of stuff too the site, that won't show for a little while yet.
Had to get rid the background picture as a lot of people said that it was difficult to read.
Had a couple of comments about my poor English!!!!! What can I say, I was busy listening to Gene Vincent when I should have been studying!
Take a look at the pix a few more added. Thanks to everybody for there comments on the website, It's not been easy to get it started, but I hope as I get a bit more experienced the website will grow.
Again this is just a quick update as to much on at the moment.
See ya at the gigs,
Lee
07/03/06
Well not much to report at the moment, in fact all is worryingly quiet.
Have demoed the last of the songs for the new album. I've actually got more than I need at the moment, so may be a second album later with another company.
Thanks to everybody for there comments about the last album.
I think this is a good place to clear up a bit of a problem that is occurring.
The last album "Outlaws Ride" was a solo album but did feature Ritchie on drums. There were a number of reasons for the decision to release it under my name and not "The Sundowners" the main reason being that at the time we didn't have a regular bass player, hence the reason Darrel is playing bass on the album.
I'd wanted to record a Sundowners album, but without a regular bass player at the time it meant that whoever came in would have to learn the songs really quickly and it would have been a bit messy. The other problem when you have somebody new in a band is that your not sure if they will fit in with you, or you will fit in with them.
The record company and I felt that as the studio time had been booked it was better to go ahead with it as a solo project.
So for all those that have been confused, and have been asking there local record stalls for the new "Sundowners" album I apologize for the confusion.
The next album will be a "Sundowners" album, the first for the band, It's difficult too believe that the band has been going now for 17 years and with any line up I've never recorded an album!
I think one is long overdue!
Anyway that's all for now.
Cheers,
Lee

A great night last night at Crondall. Very busy and the club seems to be back to its old numbers which is great too see. A massive thank you too Jane and Robin for all there hospitality and vitals. Ritchie will be eating his way through that lot over the next couple of days. A big shout for the Oh Boy record hop, some really great rockin stuff played over all decades something to please everyone, brilliant.
Also a couple of pictures were drawn of us while we were on stage, check them out on the Pix page, thanks too Aaaron & Laura for them.
Cheers,
Lee
22/02/06
Well another 3 good gigs at the weekend.
First gig was at the Cardinal Woolsey, always have a great night here and it's only £2 to get in. Saturday found us at a line dancing club called the SUNDOWNERS line dancing club. We thought when we walked in that they'd made a 10ft banner just for us! No such luck. Anyway a good night was had by all and we met the bass player from the Geno Washington band who turned out too be a big Rockabilly fan and Brian Setzer nut.
It just goes to show that were everywhere.
Sunday saw us at one of my favourite gigs "the Woodgrange" in Southend.
Always a brilliant night here and free to get in.
Looks like I'll be doing some gigs for "the Heartbreakers" There current guitarist Tyoshi is moving back to Japan for a while and being a good mate of mine put my name forward as a stand in.
I will only be doing about 4 or 5 gigs with them this year as my schedule is busy and I can only fit in these gigs. It will be nice just too play lead guitar again for a few gigs! I'm also doing a gig with Jacko Buden of "Flying Saucers" and of course "Bill Haileys original Comets" fame, at the Pavilion in Battersea on the 18th of March. As many of you know Jacko has been a leading sax player on the scene for many years and has played and recorded with some of the great bands of past and present. Again this is a bit of a departure for me as we're not really known for our Haily songs!
I'll be warbling a bit too so if your free come down, looks too be a howling time at Battersea!
Cheers,
Lee

All the gigs back on

Just noticed that all the gigs have come off the site on the gig guide!
Give me some time and I'll get them back on there!

Well two gigs at the weekend. The first was Friday night in Chelmsford for Perry. A good night but the crowd were a little quiet. Sometimes Fridays are like that everybodys knackered after work and it takes a while for them too get into it.
Saturday saw us at one of our regular gigs at the Prince of Wales in Strood Kent. If you've not been too this venue before make an effort to go down there. It's free too get in and there are some great rockin bands playing on a weekly basis. Ritchie was out with the "Voodoo Venders" so we had Nathan "Rhythm" King of J.J. King and the Coolers fame on drums. He did a brilliant job and I'd like to thank him for a truley great night. Sorry about walk dont run mate!
Looks like the new album will be started soon, have spoken to the board at Foottappin Records and the second of our 3 album deal will be recorded sometime soon. I've demo'd 8 of the songs so far and I've got a meeting with the A&R man next week to play him the tracks. This is always the time that you hope they like what you've been working on for 12 months!
Lookis like it will be nearly all originals with maybe 2 covers. We will be putting our version of "Unchained Melody" on it for all those that are wondering.
Will be speaking to the T-shirt man this week so keep your eyes open for them on here, and also the long awaited photos should be ready at the end of the week.
All for now, keep in touch.
Lee
07/02/06
Well apart from the fact that I'm a year older, not a lot going on at the moment.
Some news for those in the know. New album out by BR5-49, not sure how this is going to sound as the band's been through so much in the last couple of years, but I'm confident that it'll be up to standard. And talk of them doing some shows in Europe this summer.
Dwight Yoakam's new album is out "Blame the Vain" If your into Dwight like me then you'll love it another first rate album, and for all again,Dwights got one gig booked for the UK in Gateshead! I think this could be a weekend away for the band up north!

Hi,
A few more gigs added to the gig guide,
Lee
Updated 14/08/05
Well as I thought last night was brilliant, Mucho thanks to Pete & Donna for a brilliant night, The Jets were brilliant as usual, I never ever get tired of watching them, they are such a brilliant band, and such nice blokes too boot. It seems impossible to believe that they started as "Brad" in 1974!
They must be the only Rockin band in this country if not the world to have been playing for 32 years with only 1 line up change, and that was one member leaving. It's no wonder they can play brilliantly all forms of Rockin music. Brilliant!
Thanks to the guy at the front last night, for pointing out that one of our speakers was on fire!!!!!! I thought Ritchie had spontaneously combusted behind his drum kit!
I think it was dust from the new studio project, still a bit dusty in there! And I'm storing stuff in their at the moment.
Will be posting details of the benifit gig in October at Cuxton tomorrow, so please take a look.

Not much going on at the moment, gig on Saturday was cancelled at the Prince of Wales in Reigate. Turns out that the landlord has been fined for not having some sort of licence.
It means yet another rock n roll pub is not able to have live bands. I think if this carries on I'll have to go back on the windows!
This Saturday should be a good one. supporting the brilliant Jets at the Acacia Halls in Dartford for Pete Bruce & Donna.
This is a great venue with a big dance floor and its always busy.
If you can get down come and see us, and of course the Jets!
We should be sporting our new shirts.
That's all I'm going to say on the matter, I will leave you too make up your own minds about them!
Will be flying out to Japan in September for a holiday with the family and also to play one gig in Sapporo on the 24th at the "Teddy Boy Night". This is always a good gig and the last time I was there the air con was not working, it had to be one of the hottest gigs I've ever played, in more ways than one!
check out the gig guide a few more added. One for our good friend Trevor Collins, he's been booking the band now for about 15 years on and off, and I'd like to thank him and his brother Dave for there continued support for the band.
That's all for now.

Two great gigs at the weekend. Saturday we were at the fab "Metro Club" run of course by "Cosmic Keith". I really had a good time on Saturday at this club even though I missed my train home! Had to get a cab! but it was well worth it. If you love your Rockin music then you should check this club out. A big thank you to Keith for looking after us. For more info e-mail Keith and he'll give you the low down about the how down! Boparama@yahoo.co.uk
Also thanks too Paul Shehan for the beer!
Nice too see lots of friends that I've not seen for a long time. Hopefully some photos of this gig too follow thanks too Bill.
It was also good too meet up with my old mucker Clive Osbourne, of Blue Cat's fame. Clive was with the Sundowners for about 2 years in the early 90's and we had some great gigs. I have a project that I've been thinking about for a while and I'd like him involved in that, so watch this space!
Sunday found us at the Woodgrange in Southend again.
This is a blinding gig for a Sunday night out. Always a good DJ and of course you have the entertainment factor of Spike "the mad rat" there to help things along. Again this is another pub that has Rockin music on every week.
Please start to go out and support these venues, pubs are getting harder and harder too get gigs in, and the government is making it even harder for musicians too play there music. The Woody is a great gig and its free too get in! what else do you need!
Updated 22/07/05
Well things are all happening at the moment here at Gocher towers.
I've just had permission from my landlord to turn my shed into an office/studio. It's not really a shed as such. Its brick built and has been fully sound proofed by the looks so it should be great when it's up and running.
It's full to the gunnels with junk at the moment, so I'll be spending the next couple of weeks sorting that out and making various trips to the local dump!
Once I'm settled into my new den I'll be starting work on the next album.
I will still record it hopefully with Darrel if he's not too busy, but I'll start the demo process about late Aug/early Sept. I'm hopeful that it will be out for Christmas.
I also have to demo some Christmas songs for another project, as well as put down some new ideas for a film project!
For all of you that know me well, you will I'm sure be pleased to know that my partner Rui and I are looking forward to the birth of another baby (as yet sex unknown!) on the 28th of December! This will be a busy period for us as I'm due to gig on New Years Eve at Wildcat Pete's fab club in Beaconsfield. Names for the offspring are a closely guarded secret, but they have been chosen and put in golden envelopes and locked away until after Christmas. Will keep you posted on events. As yet Sonny our first is totally unaware of what is going to hit him! So if you see me in the New Year and I look a little jaded you'll know why.

The new album on Foot tappin records should be out in a week or two.
As most of you know who have been asking about it, the brilliant Darrel Higham has produced and played bass on it for us. He also lent his vocal talent's to a couple of tracks.
Darrel has been and is currently on tour with Slim Jim Phantom of Stray Cats fame, and as soon as he's back he will be putting the finishing touches to the album. I will keep you all posted here.
We actually recorded more songs than we needed so, we may use some of these at a latter date.
Further to speculation we have now recorded our version of "Unchained Melody" and this will be coming out very soon.
I originally wanted to put this out on vinyl only, but we have had such a response to it especially by DJ's that we need to release it first on CD.
I have had to bow to "market forces" I'm afraid (this comment is too my good friends in Bristol) you know who you are Chris!!
At some stage very soon I will put out a 45 but at this time I have no idea what tracks I'll use. This has always been an ambition of mine, I've only ever released one 45 and that was with "One Track Mind".
Some gigs starting to come in for next year, I'll add them to the web site a bit latter in the year.

HAVE YOU HEARD THE
NEWS!
Welcome to the new Sundowners web site.
About time some might say! Sorry for the delay, all good things come to those that wait.
It will start slowly but build up (A bit like the band)
It's taken us a long time to get our act together I know, but at long last if you want to see the band or get in touch here's your chance.
If there's news or pix or anything of interest I will post it on here for your entertainment. (Even if there's not I'll post it anyway).
Take it Easy
